About Megan Murtha
I have a Bachelor's Degree in English and a Master's Degree in Literature. I began working with at-risk youth in the late 1990s in Boston and decided to devote my career to helping young people succeed. I began working with NH-JAG in 2003 with students who had already dropped out of school as a GED tutor. I became a youth specialist and started an in-school program at Winnacunnet High School in Hampton in 2008. During the summer of 2015 I taught a workshop entitled "Reaching the Rainbow: Engaging LGBTQ Youth in the JAG program" at a National Training Seminar in New Orleans. Our school district is composed of 4 towns. Some of the barriers our students face are poverty, substance abuse, domestic violence, history of trauma, depression, anxiety, and homelessness. Some of our older students have overcome many obstacles and now are leaders in the classroom with honor roll grades and success at work.
